VOGSTAD Lillian (Joy)

It is with great sorrow in our hearts to announce that our Mom, Grandma and Beloved Wife, left us suddenly, on May 6th, surrounded by family and friends.  Joy was born on December 22, 1932 in Bassano, grew up in Hussar, lived and raised her family in Dalum.   Music was always a large part of Joy's life starting at an early age.  Some of her fondest memories were of singing around the piano at home with her brothers and sisters to teaching her children and grandchildren how to play the piano.  Growing up the youngest child of a large family and having five children herself, there was never a shortage of noise or entertainment in her life.  Joy's teaching career began in Lawson and spanned many towns from Sieu Lake, to Chancellor, Hussar, Banff and Calgary and ended with her obtaining her Bachelor of Education from the University of Edmonton, one week before marrying Edmund on November 8th, 1958. Edmund first got the courage to ask Joy out at a country dance and they happily danced and farmed through life for 53 years.  After their children were grown up, Joy and Edmund joined a square dancing club and kept busy following their eleven grandchildren’s many activities.   Joy was a long-time member of the Eastern Star, the UCW and the Dalum Friendship Club.  She was instrumental in starting up the Treacy Family Picnic as family gatherings from Christmas to birthdays, were always very important to Joy.  She felt that spending time visiting with family and friends should always be a priority in her’s and her family members’ lives.      She is survived by her Beloved Husband Edmund, her five children and their families; Ruth and Glenn Murphy (Lindsay and Adam), Treacy and Paula Vogstad (Amanda, Danielle, Amber and Shawni Jo), Byron and Marla Vogstad (Naomie and Tamika), Roger and Shannon Vogstad (Anthony and Douglas) and Cameron and Christina Vogstad (Daniel).  She is predeceased by her brothers and sisters Billy, Ruth, Jack (Francis), Glenn, Jimmy (Margaret) Leona Rose and sister-in-law Grace and leaves behind her brothers Robert and Linton (Donna) and sister-in-law Norma.  In lieu of flowers the family wishes all donations to be sent to the Cancer Foundation.  A service will be held to celebrate Joy’s life on Thursday at 11:00 at the Mountain View Cemetery, in Calgary, AB.   She will keep us strong living forever in our hearts and will be deeply missed.
